Do I have to take a new continuing education course on human trafficking?

Yes. The following professions are required to take a 1-hour continuing education course on human trafficking by January 1, 2021:

Pharmacy
Dentistry
Chiropractic Medicine
Respiratory Care
Nursing Home Administration
Occupational Therapy
Dietetics and Nutrition
Massage Therapy
Physical Therapy Practice

What requirements must be met by the sign?

The sign must be at least 11 x 15 inches in size, use clearly legible font that is at least 32-point in type size, and must state in both English and Spanish: If you or someone you know is being forced to engage in an activity and cannot leave, whether it is prostitution, housework, farm work, factory work, retail work, restaurant work, or any other activity, call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center at 888-373-7888 or text INFO or HELP to 233-733 to access help and services. Victims of slavery and human trafficking are protected under United States and Florida law. Is the Board establishing reporting procedures, or does each establishment write their own procedures?

The legislation allows each establishment to develop their own procedures for reporting suspected human trafficking to the National Human Trafficking Hotline or a local law enforcement agency. The Department has posted examples of reporting procedures and signs outlining these procedures to help establishments get started developing their own procedures at www.flhealthsource.gov/humantrafficking/.

Can I have more than one DEM at a single establishment?

No. The DEM is defined as the manager of the establishment and responsible for operating the establishment in accordance with the laws and rules. This responsibility must belong to a single licensed massage therapist actively practicing in that establishment.
